Modern Listening.

We all listen to the greats like Louis Armstrong, Harry "Sweets" Edison, Dizzy Gillespie, Snooky Young etc (or at least I would have thought so ).

But who do people on here recommend giving a hearing to?

I’m trying to listen to as wide a variety of trumpet playing as possible, including the more modern stuff, so who would you recommend?

Cheers, M

Tom Harrell, because of his unique ability to be completely inside/outside the tradition at the same time. Flat-out refreshing.

Re: Modern Listening.

Let me give you a few more modern ones other than the guys talked about above who are all fantastic by the way. Check out Ryan Kisor (Lincoln Center-check out the Donna Lee album), Jeremy Pelt, and Jim Rotondi for starters.
