I didn't mean that it was EASY... just that it must be HARDER to double tongue and circular breathe than to slur and do it. I can't play the piece at all either way, nor circular breathe!

Mendez was the ultimate technical beast. Sergei does a good job on the Motto but he does not achieve Mendez' perfection. Dokshizer and M.A. aren't too shabby either to say the least. The more I hear Timofey Dokshizer's playing he more I like it.

The trumpet players from Mt Olympus .... heck even the composer.. think about it.. he had to write all those notes using a pencil .... cramps to write cramps to play ... no wonder some guys just want to play high notes

One of the few good things about being 76 years old is that, unlike most of you young guys (gals?) out there, I had the opportunity to hear Mendez in his prime in the late 1950s (early 1960s???) in Tallahassee, FL. Recordings made at that time could not do justice to his ability. I was really impressed when he played Variations on the Carnival of Venice with one finger. I don't remember which Variations or which finger.... Without doubt he is among the best trumpet players of all times.

And all these years I thought I was supposed to blow!!!
