| Mezzo Piano User | Mouthpieces for a Piccolo Hi everyone. I have started to use the Schilke piccolo trumpet at work but it take the cornet mouthpieces. Does anyone out there have an opinion on a really good cornet mouthpiece for a picc? (Until now I have been using the yamaha which takes regular Bb trumpet mps). (FYI - I am used to a rather narrow rim). Eric

Stork offers tons of options for picc., and my personal favorite for the Schilke P5-4 is an old funky Selmer cornet mouthpiece that just says "Selmer" on it. The cup and backbore popping pitches match, and it sounds great. Unfortunately, I don't have a P5-4, so I use a custom Curry on my Scherzer. Have fun -- new horn and new mouthpiece!

![]() | Re: Mouthpieces for a Piccolo The 10 1/2 seems to be pretty common, as well as the 7E. I have a 7E w/a schilke shank and .117 backbore. Works well for me.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Mouthpieces for a Piccolo I play the Schilke 11A as well on P5-4, it has PIC stamped on the backbore, I don't know if that is custom or not, I got it from a friend.

You're totally right, I never even thought of it. I play on GR mps (and for Picc I played a 65z** - I'll just order one with a cornet shank on it - duh!) Thanks Eric

![]() | Re: Mouthpieces for a Piccolo I play on a Schilke P5-4 and play on a custom Schilke 'Faddis' model with a cornet shank. I originally tried one on a b-flat trumpet and found it interesting, but the sound was much too bright and edgy for me. I got one with a cornet shank and love it. It is the most in tune mouthpiece I've found on the piccolo. The sound is still a bit brighter than I like, but the slotting and intonation is so 'on' that I've become tolerant brightness. |
