What will add tons to anyone's pedagogical knowledge is working (playing)through a bunch of those books that actually contain written notes, asking the question:
"How is this beneficial?"
Sub-questions include but are not limited topics such as:
"What does this exercise do for my chops/technique/musicianship?"
"Why was this exercise included?"
"Why are these exercises in this order?"
A holistic approach for the student (us!) will always have the need for some specialized practice in their (our!) weak areas in order to keep balance. Knowing theory is good, but kinesthetic experience is priceless!
