Nashville Jazz Workshop

I wanted to let everyone know about a very cool thing that's happeining here in Nashville. It's the Nashville Jazz Workshop. This is a school for jazz that was started by Lori Meachem (a plus talented and hip pianist/composer) and her husband Roger Spencer (a fine bass player and student of David Baker's w/ huge ears and encyclopedic knowledge of Jazz). Roger can tell you who played on what session, when it happened and the brand of scotch the drummer was drinking. The Workshop has classes in the evenings Mon thru Thurs and performances on the weekends. They offer vocal, instrumental, ensemble and theory classes. For instance Roger does a whole six week session on ii-V7 changes. I took it twice and plan on taking it again. The classes are hands on (a lot of playing) and one can take away a lot to work on.

So, if anyone is in town give the workshop a call (615-242-5299) and stop by. I'm sure they'll be glad to see you.

T. Mac

P.S. Here's the web site: Nashville Jazz Workshop
