Some of you are parents and music teachers of small children. I'm teaching my daughter to play the trumpet and to warm up we usually do a little lip buzzing followed by a little emergency sirens on the mouthpiece.
My 6 yr old daughter said to me "hey dad, make the mouthpiece buzz like a bee. So I took one hand and hovered it in front of her and with the other hand I held the mouthpiece and buzzed like a bee. Her task was to try and hit the bee (my hand). I would make the buzz go up and down, soft and loud sounding real close to a bee thats being swatted at. Then she did the bee and i tried to swat her hand.
We had a blast.
Its a really cool way to capture the interest of young kids to do mouthpiece buzzing and you get to take turns pretending you're a bee.
Hope this takes some of the monotonous-ness out of teaching and involving young kids in mouthpiece buzzing.
