Hey guys... So I wanna start by saying whats been happening has been unusual for me. Im a college trumpet major just finished my second year 2 weeks ago. For the past few months Ive been having some serious breathing issues and went to the doctor and they said I am only taking in about 40% of the amount of air that the average 20yr old fit male should be. Obviously thats a pretty big issue and they told me that I should take a break from playing trumpet and that maybe its not the career choice for me if I have health issues. well I certainly am not paying attention to that. I couldnt take a break cause I have dozens of gigs as well as juries and school concerts. Plus I have been super stressed, not eating right, not exercising, taking in way too much caffeine which is what I think was wrong...
So once I was done with school I took a little over a week off from playing my trumpet. I hating every hour of it because I love playing more anything but I thought it would be best. I started eating better, slowed down the coffee drinking, doing some yoga and relaxing. My breathing has dramatically improved. So last week I took out the horn to get back into it and not surprisingly things felt pretty out of shape and bad. While coming back I am also trying to play with a lott less pressure. Not that I was a big pressure player before but I really want to play with as little as possible. So its been a little over a week now playing everyday and its not feeling any better. whatsoever. My low register sounds great, better than its ever been, middle register it literally feels uncomfortable and the upper register is terrible and I feel like back to a little kid trying to play a high C, and I had a really solid F above high C a few weeks ago and now I cant play like an E in the staff. I've been working so much on my fundamentals especially playing quiet long tones and low relaxing notes. and I still feel terrible.
Im just looking for some guidance here. if any of you have expirienced this or have any advice please help!
