    Olds Recording

I have an Olds Recording trumpet the lacquer is crazed, can i have opinions please about stripping it and leaving it raw? please ignore the brass smell on hands scenario as this can easily be resolved by applying Renaissance wax. i am more concerned with the effects on sound.

    Re: Olds Recording

I havent stripped my Recording yet, it is on the list, stripped my Mendez, no change in sound I could detect. Both horns lacquer about 50% gone.

    Regards, Stuart.

Go for it. if you were Wynton you MIGHT notice some small difference.

    Re: Olds Recording

None of the fifteen Olds horns I own have much lacquer. I've stripped almost all of them save one Super cornet which amazingly possesses 95% lacquer. I don't think it has any effect upon the sound. I'd go for it.

    Re: Olds Recording

On my Recordings, I prefer the opposite approach: have them professionally stripped and relacquered. They're much easier to keep clean, look better, avoid the need for periodic polishing off of residue, and the sound is just as good as ever.
Vintage Olds and Reynolds and Selmers, yes sir, yes sir, two gazoos full.
