| Pianissimo User | Ornamenting notes. I'm talking about flutter tounging, water tounging, rips, falls, anything that could be used to ornament a note I want to know about how and when to use it. Thanks in advance. -Andrew

![]() | Hold on... It sounds like you're talking about jazz effects to color a note. Is that right? If so, it's not an unreasonable question, DG. But maybe posting it in the jazz players section would get a better, more helpful response than just more questions from us. ML |

| Pianissimo User | Ok, let me narrow the question. Throw out legit music, I am strictly talking jazz. Are there any other manipulations of the tone and articulation that I had not mentioned(ie. Water tounge, flutter tounge, rips up to a note, falls off of a note)? And when during a solo would be a good time to use one of these articulation variants(ie. a long held note such as a whole note or a half note or something shorter like a few quarter notes or a eigth note run)? So my precise question is...are there any manipulations I didn't mention and for the ones I did (and didn't) how do you use them and when in an improv. solo would you most likely use them? Is that better?
