| Mezzo Piano User | pic mouthpiece Hey everyone, I have begun an interest in pic playing and I was just wondering: In your opinions, what is more important in a pic mouthpiece, a shallow cup volume or a narrow throat? If I am looking at it wrong please let me know, right now I am playing on a GR 67mx for my regular playing and I have a GR65Z** for lead jazz or Pic work. Is this a valid enough mouthpiece. I know it's a personal thing I just don't want to screw myself up down the road. Cheers Eric

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: pic mouthpiece How it sounds and how it plays are the most important considerations on choosing a piccolo trumpet mouthpiece. There are no rules. Some players sound great on mouthpieces that most players would not play on their larger horns. It is your choice. I could not begin to play the setup my teacher played,a 7EW, I play a Laskey 80* for the extreme stuff and most other times I use an 80C on the piccolo. It works for me...........now go out there and find your own MMD. Mouthpiece of Mass Destruction Wilmer

![]() | The mouthpiece which gave me best results for piccolo is a pretty standard one for commercial music. Bob Reeves 42S ( I use a Selmer with trumpet shank leadpipe). Another one is the Bach 7CW but it is a little brighty for my taste. Gus |

![]() | I agree with the above posts. Neither is more important for everybody. Most players play a smaller rim, cup, or both on picc but there are no rules. If you're using GR gear now you should consider the GR piccolo system. I think they work fantastically. For comparision I play 65.6 on all horns except for piccolo when I play a 64P-M.

![]() | some common piccolo mouthpieces that you might want to try: 14a4x , 7E, 7EW, Laskey Piccolo model (same as 7EW?) or your same rim on a smaller cup. That should give you an idea as to what direction you should head. Do as Wilmer suggest and use sound as your guide. |
