I am assuming you have a lacquered horn. That is red rot coming from the inside out.

About this red rot TAF.....I have no idea what is done about it. The fact that you washed your trumpet every month, depending on what you washed it in, could have accelerated the problem. Did you properly lube up everything after cleaning? As part of my preventive maintenance, I usually put a few drops of valve oil in my lead pipe each time I do the valves to keep the inside of the horn slick and moisturized. I also cannot attest to what happens to lacquered horns since I have never owned one. I wish I could offer more advice. I am sure one of our more educated folks on the subject will chime in soon.

According to my pro shop, the pink spots are NOT nessesarily red rot.
They can be from an imperfection in the brass or a laquer that was not completly cured.
I don't know for sure, just passing what the tech said.
