When you get things that are more and more rare as time goes on, this practice becomes more and more abhorrent. No one would object to parting out an otherwise working or close to working 2007 Chevrolet, for example, but parting out a restorable 1915 Chevrolet would be unconscionable.

Some people just have no concept of history, don't care, and want to make a buck on any old piece of junk. It's not uncommon in some older people who lived in poverty and need at one time.

On the other hand, it's awful hard to tell someone that they can't take a massed-produced object that they own and do whatever they want with it.
