Question for Wilmer: Bernstein On the Town

Wilmer,

In the second mvmt of ON THE TOWN "Lonely Town Pas De Deux" there is a muted solo. Do you have any suggestions. Just says con sord. A recording I have been listening to sounds like a cup. Not sure.

Thanks

I play it with a soft felt mute, like the solo in the Concerto in F.
Think Vacchiano!

Wilmer, What do you mean by felt mute? A felt hat?

I have an old felt hat mute from the forties.
I really like to play that haunting melody open. Talk to the conductor about it before the rehearsal.
That can be another thread......."Conversations with Genius"
