| New Friend | rf? I was playing through Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance (No 4) yesterday in preparation for a concert tomorrow, when I noticed an "rf" at the start of a phrase (the f written as in forte). I've seen sf and sfz before, but never an rf. I showed it to my teacher and he hadn't seen it before either. Does anyone know what it means? Or is it just a typo? |

| Re: rf? Chris is correct about it meaning rinforzando, which, according to Bakers manual of musical terms is defined thusly; "With special emphasis;indicates a sudden increase in loudness, either a tone or chord, or throughout a phrase or a short passage". OLDLOU>> |
