![]() | Rip & Shake I'm not sure of my termanology here, but, when a trumpet (usually in a big jazz band) shakes a high note is that the same as a Rip? I would like to know how to do what I'm calling a "ayyaayaa shake". What is the technique for doing that? |

![]() | Re: Rip & Shake A rip is what the name implies, a string of notes on the same fingering from one note to the other. If you use your imagination you can sort of figure out what ripping from one note to the other would sound like. A shake, therefore is shaking from one note to the other also on the same fingering like lip slurs on page 44 of the Arban. ML |

![]() | Re: Rip & Shake Manny & rowuk, It's that silky sound of the rip or shake that I'd like to achieve. Do you move the horn? Do you move lips/head? Where can I find Wilmer's comments about this? |
