Any other ideas?
This is probably just more evidence of my dorkliness, but when I was in high school, I marched with my Schilke C5. I just had to be careful with it!
Ok? Haha. Any thoughts about removing the finish?
I removed the lacquer off of my Yamaha Xeno using paint stripper from Home Depot. It took a few applications, but it basically just rinsed off with water. Make sure you use a ventialted area and rubber gloves but it was quite easy. I then used scotch brite dish pads from the grocery store give it that brushed look. It came out great and the horns plays fantastic, I use it for all of my gigs. It has tarnished of course but has a great vintage look. Good luck!
That'll do. And the green color is a bonus !!
