I never really have a problem, even though I have 8 neighbors to the sides and on top of my apartment. However, three weeks ago the one from upstairs came down and told me he needs to sleep Sundays and I can't "play that horn or whatever it is" on that day. Now I use Sundays as a simple 20 minute warmup day in the back of my 1990 Volvo wagon!

    Re: Shy trumpet player

My "Recession Gig" (which is turning out to be apparently permanent, as is the Recession) is to be a janitor at a church/school/gym/etc. It in reality is just an excuse for me to use the place to practice. I do my work, then practice on my own time. I have many rooms to choose from, depending on mood.

I practice at odd hours of the night. No one hears me practice or play.

I also sing there. No one hears that, either.

I used to be in band, then rock bands. But now I keep it all TOP secret.

I feel I should at least master that beginner's method, before I let anyone hear.

When I was a singer in my teens, I practiced a year and a half before allowing anyone to hear.

I'm weird that way, but that's just how it is....perfectionism....SUPER Secretive.

I think about playing some short pieces for the family, but the amount of notes that clam, prevents me from doing least for the time being.

It's also a reason why I refuse to take lessons.

It's nice to have a large Facility to use as my personal practice closet. ....ANY kind of reverb I desire. And all the privacy I could ever need.

(slips ever so gently into obsessed madness) .....I'm Batman.
Note to all you lawyers out there...the above statement is merely my opinion, and is not presented as fact, or as any better that anybody else. I am not a pro or a teacher, nor do I claim to be. I do not accept responsibility for any actions taken by anyone reading my comments. For entertainment purposes only.
