simple DIY soldering jig
I'm not claiming to have reinvented the wheel but this simple jig will hold a trumpet in any position, costs nothing to make, and, if you can use it in conjunction with a good swivel vice, works amazingly well...
cut two short lengths of 15mm copper plumbing pipe...length less than the trumpet valve jackets....by means of some old compression 'T' joints, fix these to a third shorter piece so that they can enter the first and third valve jackets. Select a large(ish) steel bolt with suitable nut to go thru the short tube and make it a good friction fit therein by wrapping it around with heat resistant tape or whathaveyou. Use big washers under bolt head and nut to assemble the jig. Now clamp the head and tail of the bolt in the jaws of a good swivel vice and by placing the trumpet on the upright tubes thru' the valve jackets you can move the trumpet to any position by moving the tubes around the bolt,...and swivelling the vice.
This took longer to figure out than to make which was about 20 mins...hope it helps someone....Regards,Bob
Well I sure am going to try it soon. Thanks for the research!
