Even if the method is good (I have no idea as I haven't read it), I'll bet the success rate is at best low single digit. Why? A player that doesn't get it, is not helped by a better method. If the promise of unlimited range was realistic, we wouldn't have so many players with problems. The key is not the method, it is the discipline and dedication over YEARS.

![]() | Re: Stevens-Costello System Updated(Chops) Well I ask because like most people that did not major in college or even minor for that matter in a musical area most of did not revieve formal training.....I know that their was no real method taught to me or anyone I know at the grade school level. You either figured it out on your own or another trumpet player would show you somethign he picked up some place etc..... Very basic technique was demonstrated in the method book that I had it was more a book ful of music and scales then anything else. I do not remember much more then say the letter "M" told to pull back and tuck my corners and buzz......Later on you had a 10 minute leasson on double tongueing and where told to practice at home etc......and that was about it really. So for someone that has never been exposed to a formal method of embochure training this whole idea of a "method" sounds intrigueing. Like I said I would have nothing to compare it too but it seems like haveing a foundation to deviate from at least's gives you a starting point to deviate from. With out a standard then any deviation you do is like randomly woundering around the mouth piece looking for the slot. I have no idea though like I said I did not recieve that level of formal training it was much more sink or swim and read the book when I was a kid. I just count myself lucky that I never got hit with a stand, batton, or water balloon for screwing up to badly!!LOL Really I just want to make sure that my son has plenty of exposure to those far smarter and more gifted then myself when it comes to brasswind instruments. Any advatage I can give him that I did not have I would like to give him. It is always easier to like something when you make regular progress and sound good then the other way around! P.S. Festivals and Band Camp is where you got to learn all the secrets of the Universe!!! LOL |
