Re: Summer Book Assignment If folks have not already, Zen and the Art of Archery by Eugen Herrigel. Also, The Musical Temperament : Psychology and Personality of Musicians by Anthony E. Kemp ; Art and Fear: Observations on the Perils (and Rewards) of Artmaking by David Bayles and Ted Orland; Strasberg - At the Actor's Studio (Tape-recorded sessions) Edited by Robert H. Hethman; Composers on Music: Eight Centuries of Writings- Morgenstern's Anthology Edited by Josiah Fisk; ACTING: The First Six Lessons by Richard Boleslavsky. The first publication of this book was in 1933. (Just read the first few pages and you will understand why I suggested it.) If none of these floats anyone's boat, I suggest reading books on your favorite composers. I have read tons of books on Mahler and Stravinksy. It is fun, informative and eye-opening to find out who these composers were as people. - Mannex Last edited by Alex Yates : 04-26-2007 at 01:12 PM.

Re: Summer Book Assignment Will there be a test at the end of summer? Seriously though, I love to read and am always looking for new books. This looks to be a great couple of months. Thanks Mannex

Re: Summer Book Assignment I agree Vulgano. Those are all good ones. I also want to mention that I much prefer Inner Game of Tennis over IG of Music. I am sure there are more jewels out there......calling all bookworms!

Re: Summer Book Assignment Geez, I was thinking, like, anything by Carl Hiaasen or Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, by Phillip K. Dick. Maybe: The Talented Mr. Ripley/ Patricia Highsmith Dancing Wu Li Masters/ Gary Zukav Bird/ Robert Reisner Another good Jazz bio is Straight Life/Art Pepper And Lets not forget Miles the Autobiograpy/ Miles and Quincey Thorpe (caution contains graphic descripitions of sex, violence, drug use and naughty language)

Re: Summer Book Assignment Hey Tom, even though his novels are not trumpet or arts related, Carl Hiaasen is great summer reading. I have all of his books. I am really enjoying the responses. Keep them coming! (thanks for starting this thread V)
