Technical Audition Tape?

Does technical tape have to be really fast to show skills.

Originally I was double tonguing pretty fast, but my trumpet teacher told me to single tongue it to make it sound smoother. Thing is, I cant single tongue that tempo (110 bpm) I start messing up.

My audition tape is due in a few days. What should I do? Take it down to 104 bpm single tonguing?

My teacher wants me to single tongue 110 bpm, but I cant. I haven't been practicing that way the last month, and switching to single tonguing now is difficult.

Re: Technical Audition Tape?

Well, I don't know what you're auditioning for, what you're playing, or what your abilities are, but a safe suggestion is to play it at the speed and tongue style that sounds the best. In my opinion, technical doesn't need to be amazingly fast. Clean with good phrasing is far more impressive.
