Tom, your choice in mutes...

Hey Tom-

I am wondering what your choice in mutes are. I play the Yamaha Xeno series Bb and C horns and I really like Denis Wick straight and cup mutes. What do you use with your Yamahas...what do your fellow section players use, and what do you see other top players use? Just wondering! Thanks!

Re: Tom, your choice in mutes...

Hi,

In general we use the Wick straight and cup mutes. When we need a softer sound we use either the black Trumcor or the Bach plastic straight. For Fetes we use the Montreal straight or some people call it the fiber mute. We are always up for the trying something new, but that is what we have done lately. Hope that helps.

Thanks
Tom

Re: Tom, your choice in mutes...

Hi
Has anybody tried the Ring Mute?? And if so, does it change the sound or does it just soften the sound. I sometimes perform in small churches and I feel I could lighten the sound
Thanks
