Various etude tempi

Manny, here's a question: there are a lot of etudes with suggested metronome markings that I can never and have never gotten up to speed. I can't do Brandt #6 for example at the speed of dotted half 76. Nor can I get #15 much above 66, much less the indicated 82. Many of the Walter Smith etudes have eluded me at full speed, thought there are a good number I can do. Is this important? Can you do all etudes at the recommended tempi? (Will we have to get into another conversation about the plural of tempo?) Or am I just schlub who can't play fast enough?

Some tempi are set well. Others? Well, they're fun goals but the bottom line is that it needs to musical, logical, and enjoyable. Practice for success when it comes to tempo.

Try the Arban's Charactertistic Studies at the printed tempi. Yowza.
