Back to a Velocity question. The St. John's book was recommended for velocity studies in another thread. BUT........can someone suggest some in the old version of Arban's?

Re: Velocity in Arbans

One thing that helps a bunch on velocity, but is as not as interesting as watching a violist tune ("do I it turn the peg right or left if I'm sharp?") are the studies for the trill. The half-step trills are pretty easy, but the whole step trills, played cleanly, can benefit many aspects of our playing.
Have fun!

Re: Velocity in Arbans

all of Arbans scale exercizes are also suitable for velocity studies:
tie all, tongue all, tie 2 /tongue 2, tongue 1/tie 3, tie 3/tongue one.

Velocity studies are just another name for "old school" learning by repetition. Instead of a quick cheat from the internet: real, solid BASICS.

St. Jacome just wrote them out as tidbits for daily practice.

Robin, thanks for the translation. I've not caught up with the new lingo.
