| Forte User | Herbert L. Clarke, Technical Studies for Cornet (pub Carl Fisher): 1st study. But not necessarily in order...try beginning with the one that starts on C nat., then up to 2nd line G, then from low B down to low F#. Play them softly, as many times as possibl in one breath. Go for evenness of sound and rhythm, along with fluid connection of slur. Further back, I think it's the 5th or 6th study, are some nice 2 octave scale studies. Smooth connections, even tone from register to register, and aim at the BOTTOM of the scale. Stay open and full up top. Try articulating it for extra challenge! Reminds me...I better get cracking on those, too. It's been a while! |
