Recently played a concert in a small town, Junee at their Rhythm and Rail festival. The concert had nothing to do with rhythm or rail. Griffith, Leeton, Wagga and Junee bands got together for a concert. Feature Pieces were Holst, second suite for marching band, libertango, Oblivion (Piazzola), Abba on Broadway, Manha,de Carnaval, and Doctor Who, where the whoop, hooo part of the theme was in the tubas.
In the last few days/weeks/months/years...I've been practising...a lot of practice...to much practice...I'm sick of that much practice :)
Basically , this is what I am trying to reproduce :

....and many other things...
Depping in the hot seat in the Oslo Phil this spring. Right now on tour in Japan with Mahler 1 and Schostakovich 5.
Not much of anything right now. New concert group has been slow to start up, and with the wife's HUGE objection to the dance/show band gig, has left me not much to do. Do have some stuff for Easter at church coming up, though

Had a concert with a local college (joint concert with our community band) --- about doubled our size with a 120 piece band total between the two groups. We played a few notables "The Cowboys" -from the John Wayne movie of the same title. Forever Holding, Satchmo, Le Perre, amongst a few other band popular songs.
We have another joint concert with a local high school in 3 weeks adding a few more pieces like "Star Wars and the "Blues Brothers and Police Academy" themes.
Me on a personal level - practice and scales, tonguing, long tones - trombone and trumpet as well as rehearsing the above listed songs and a few more
1991 King Silver Flair
1953 Olds Super (LA)
1979 King KG1055T (pre UMI) Silver Flair
1940? Olds Ambassador (LA) tenor trombone
I'm not responsible for offending people -- people are responsible for themselves taking offense at me
Honestly? Lots and lots and lots of long tones.
Preparing for a new gig with Munich's ESME Big Band (which is the only English-Speaking Big Band in Germany!). We are rehearsing for a big fashion store opening - the owner is a music aficionado, and likes to see himself as a patron of the arts. The store incorporates a concert hall! Six hour attendance, with two hours real playing time. Free food, free drinks, a new band outfit from the store and a clothing voucher for every member of the band - not bad. And the promise of at least two gigs a year there...
Been working on some "new" long-lost Civil War brass band tunes/arrangements that were acquired by a friend in an eBay auction. Band books from an Iowa band, I believe, that were in the case with a very rare Eb cornet. We're working them up for a premier presentation in the brass symposium at the Great American Brass Band Festival in June, as well as playing a couple outdoor concerts and a parade there.
