What is most important to you?

What is the most important aspect of your playing? Velocity, Highnotes, Breath Capacity etc..

I would have to say air. if you can master that then other aspects can fall into place(besides fingers).

I would have to agree with both of our fellow brassplayers that sound and air are very important fundamental requirements in playing the instrument, one leads way to the other.The development of a strong embouchure would be something you have to consider as most important, although it can be a long process in achieving; but a serious teacher can put you on the right path.

Try to get a good dentist as well, your teeth mean everything to your sound, and the shape of your sound.

Sound, sound, SOUND!!!

No one in the audience cares how I use my air.
No one in the audience cares about my embouchure.
No one in the audience cares what horn I have.
No one in the audience cares who I go to for my teeth.

All they care about is my total sound! From my tone to technique, it is MY SOUND that the audience payed money (or not) to come HEAR!!!

That may be true but how do you produce a sound? Air.

it all goes back to "song", as in song and wind.

if you dont hear it in your head you will never be able to play it, i dont care how you use your air, how fast you can play, etc..

my lungs dont play the note, my mind does.

you have to be able to hear the sound or phrase in your mind.

Yeah, i can see where you are going with it. But...

You need lungs to begin with. If you dont make a sound then there is no way to hear it. Plus, most people without lungs cant play trumpet. :wink:

But the question was worded poorly, stating the most important aspect of YOUR playing thus making it a personal answer.
