| What tune to play for wedding (?) Hi all. I've been dropped in the "hot-seat" for my cousin's wedding, and he wants me to play something solo...ish at his wedding while they sign the register. It's only about 4 mins, but that's along time when you're on you're the only one playing anything. I don't really have much in the way of standard repertoire, besides which, he wants something kinda jazzish. I was thinking of grabbing a pop tune (maybe U2) and re-doing it a little, but I've hit a bit of a wall for ideas on what to play. Anybody got any viable suggestions? Anything & everything considered. |

Having played a lot on Cruise Ships, I don't think I can bring myself to play the Titanic theme. I think I'll end up playing a couple of tunes at least, seeing as there isn't much you can play in 3-4 minutes without overly repeating yourself. | |

| Re: What tune to play for wedding (?) Well, Canon in D is always a popular tune. Some light melodies or snippets from there wouldn't be too bad, even if the tune is overused. |

| Re: What tune to play for wedding (?) How does the etude number 2 of Theo Charlier sound to you? I had a piano player try to pick up on this piece as I was playing it and he couldn't believe that it was in 5 flats (Db), changed key in the middle of the piece to Eb and then back to Db. By the time he caught on to what I was doing, I finished playing it. Would you believe that this is the first post I made here without mentioning.............................? |

Check out a hymnbook, there are plenty of appropriate tunes - many with secular origins if desired. They are not so tough so 4 minutes is doable even if practice time is tight before the gig! |

| Re: What tune to play for wedding (?) We had "Wonderful World" as our first dance at our wedding. During the ceremony, my brass ensemble played an arrangement of "Night and Day". I played too, then went and signed the register while they played on. It sounded great (and the words would have been appropriate if they'd been sung)... not so sure though that it would sound quite as good as a solo? Maybe you could start with that and move into "Wonderful World". If you take your time over the first three notes, it sounds as if you're just warming/tuning up |
