My trumpet teacher, Thomas Scott here in LA, played Getzens and he turned me on the Eterna back in 1989. It was a wonderful horn for the money. Since, I've seen only hobbiests use them. The newer pro Getzens are truly exceptional.
Anytime I feel like maybe my Getzen is getting heavy, I just pick up my Conn 20B. I believe they are built on an anvil. The old Connies were also rocks--I believe they weighed enough to be considered weapons so none of us were ever issued sidearms. . . .I believe the Navy liked them over all others because they seemed impervious to the salt water and sea air (Golf of Tonkin 1966). All that said, I wish I still had that grand old horn!
Yeah, I don't recall my Getzen feeling particularly heavy at all. I was surprised to read that above. But now that you (CMDR) mention it, my former horn was a Connstellation, with a 2 year interlude playing a Conn 8D French Horn.
You can't blow it if you haven't lived it.

I played a Getze Eterna Severisen model in high school, 68-70.
I recently bought a pristine Eterna Severinsen model from 1968, such a great lead horn for my style that I sold my Eclipse MS Solar Bell trumpet.
