    Worshipping the bell!

A trick i discovered recently for ailing tired chops is "worshiping the bell." This is when you rub your top lip with edge of the bell. It very simply cools warm tired, muscles. For me i find it very refreshing during a hard blow. I find it quite funny how many people in my band try and do this subtly during rehearsal.

Is this a widely used practice?

Has anybody got any other tricks for refreshing chops during a hard blow?

I try to keep "ailing" chops warm. Cold makes my lips feel swollen, which I know is backwards and weird, but you gotta do what works.

i usually sip ice water while practicing, and will freeze a couple 20 oz bottles of water the night before a rehearsal to have over the course of the four hours i spend abusing my lips.
