| Pianissimo User | 2007 CSO shostakovich 5 I posted this over at TH and decided it would be useful over here as well. I don't know if most of you have seen this yet or not but there was a digital only release (iTunes only) of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Myung-Whun Chung performing Shostakovitch 5 Live from last year. Its the #2 Classical Album on iTunes right now and for good reason. This is at the same level if not higher than the Mahler 3 and Bruckner 7 releases from the CSO's new label "Resound". The trumpet section is playing Bb trumpet on this recoding as well which is not to often done here in Chicago and I've never heard a brass section play this piece with this much of a sense of balance and blend, but would expect nothing less from the Chicago Symphony Brass. Check it out! |

| Pianissimo User | Re: 2007 CSO shostakovich 5 No. I'm pretty sure it was Chris martin, John Hagstrom, and Tage Larson. I believe they all played the Yamaha Chicago Bb artist model. I know Mr. Martin and Hagstrom did but i couldn't remember if it was Mark Ridenour or Tage Larson. If it was Tage it was the artist models all around. |
