| Ackley Solo CD James Ackley is releasing his new CD, Recital Music for Trumpet, next week. It contains "Sonata for trumpet and strings (or piano)" and "A Sunday Excursion" for flugelhorn and piano as well as works by Hansen, Pilss and Wadsworth-Walker. With this CD, recordings of all three versions of Sonata are now available. Eric Berlin's recording, of the C trumpet version with piano, was released over the internet and will be on CD later this year (listen here: http://robertjbradshaw.com/Brass/Trumpet.html). Paul Neebe's recording with the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, C trumpet and string orchestra, was released on Albany Records a couple months ago (available here: http://www.albanyrecords.com/Merchan...gory_Code=a-NR). Now James has made the Bb trumpet and piano version available on his CD. If you are not familiar with "Sonata", please take a moment to read this article compiled members of the premiere consortium: http://robertjbradshaw.com/Brass/Tru...leComplete.pdf Would you like to hear one of the tracks? Here is a direct link to an .mp3 of "Sonata" movement IV. The other tracks are great, too - sounding romantic to modern. It's a nice mix. If the direct link doesn't work, the file can also be reached by the Beauport link below. http://www.beauportpress.com/images/AckleySonataIV.mp3 To listen, place an order for the CD, or buy the Sheet Music: http://www.beauportpress.com/concerto/trumpet.html James' Web Page: http://www.jamesackley.com/ My Discography Page: http://robertjbradshaw.com/Welcome/Discography.html Thanks to James for recording the Bb version of Sonata and for letting me post this excerpt from the CD. | Are you headed to ITG? If so, there are two opportunities to hear James in person: Tuesday @ 7pm Roberto Sierra “Rhapsodia (Concerto for trumpet and wind ensemble)” with the Rowan Wind Ensemble Saturday @ 10am Oskar Bohme “Sextet” with the Bala Brass Quintet (James will be playing the solo cornet part.) |

| This is a great cd. Jim is an great player who we should all hope to be hearing a lot more from very soon. I heard him play the Bradshaw Sonata at the Denver ITG conference and was very impressed. I'd recommend this CD to anyone who plays the trumpet. Aside from Jim's great playing it is a worthwhile purchase because of the literature on the disc. It's not the same old same old trumpet cd... Two thumbs up! -Matt |
