Adagio for Strings

This is possibly my favorite classical piece, and I am looking for a brass quintet arrangement. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

go to the canadian brass web-site they have a transcription of it. warning it is hard and has a very high horn part

Make your own! It comes from Samuel Barber's 1st String Quartet, so it has four parts--the old school method of transcribing such works was to have the Tuba double the Cello part down an octave. If nothing else, you'll get to know the piece even better!

We definitely did this in our high school quintet. I'll look around to see if I have a copy of it anywhere. I don't remember who arranged it, but I doubt we would have been able to play the Canadian Brass version.

Adagio for Strings is a beautiful piece. The orchestral arrangement has a much different texture than the original string quartet arrangement. I have heard some nice (clarinet choir) and awful (bassoon quartet!) arrangements. For brass quintet it sure would be a good teaching tool for legato, extended phrases and slow tempos. Have fun!

Please though, if you play it in public, do it justice. I'm really tired of people trying to play it, but putting no emotion or feeling into it. This piece takes a TON of control.

Also make sure you play it with some good friends of yours, so you can each feel good about listening and playing together.

I don't think that will be a problem, patric. We all really like this song and have listened to it many times.

VB, I don't really know how to do that. I wish I did, but I don't! Any tips on where to find that quartet piece?

Oh thats not all it though. I've listened to the song a million times. Its my absoultley favorite piece. Its just you need so much control and sense of time and togetherness. Good luck with it though
