| Army Bands Hello All, I'm brand new to the trumpetmaster site and I have a question concerning Army Bands (non-premier). Does anyone here know which of the active army bands would be considered the best bands? I've listened to several of the bands on their respective websites as well as youtube and have been impressed with some and not so impressed with others. Also, on the Army's website it states that you can choose your station of duty 90 days before basic. Is this accurate or simply a recruiting tool to get you in, and then you go wherever they want you? I know there will be a lot of unknowns that can only be figured out by experience, but I am nonetheless trying to make as educated of a decision as possible. Thanks, Jeff |

| Re: Army Bands I'm in the Navy music program, but having worked with several Army bands, there are a few similarities. It really doesn't matter what fleet band might be best right now - it changes constantly. There are so many factors involved - who transfers in and out, who's in charge at the moment, and how much "Army Stuff" are they doing as opposed to music. Besides, you could find yourself transfered to a different group, or not getting sent to the duty station you thought you were - sometimes manning issues come into play. My advice is that if you want to be a military musician, than do it, but don't expect to get every duty station that you want. Give it a chance - if you don't like it, then get out. Getting paid to play with benefits for a few years won't have been a waste of time, and you could leave with GI bill or college loan repayment - not too shabby! |
