| Arutunian Concerto for Trumpet Are their any free sources for the song. I already have one but I would love to here a different interperatations. I am doing this piece for NYSSMA (Solo in front of a judge and get graded, then if you do good get put on a list for a all-state/all-county band.) I am a year to young to try for all-state so I am just going all-county. I also found out that I am the only trumpet player in 9th grade from my school who is doing a level 6 or 10th grade (I think). Not even the kids in teh upper band. Enough on that, any way it is a tough piece but I like it and I am approaching it differently. I am slowly working through it learning each part as I go. So far (after a week) I worked up to Meno Mosso with very few errors. After that I fall apart. Any way, post all your style hints and stuff like that in here. |

| Piano User | Re: Arutunian Concerto for Trumpet You'll definitely need the Timofei Dokshitzer recording if you don't already have it, and the Sergei Nakariakov recording isn't a bad idea either. I've never heard this piece approached too far off what Dokshitzer did, it was after written for him. The piece is very Russian in style so lots of vibrato and milk the lyrical section as much as you can, I'd study the recordings a lot, as hard as a technical piece as it is, it's even harder on a more intellectual level, best of luck! |

| Mezzo Forte User | Re: Arutunian Concerto for Trumpet If you don't manage to get the Dokschitzer Arutunian recording you can try the Rod Franks' recording (the CD is entitled Saving Face) and though it is arrangment for concert band and trumpet it is very nice, indeed. I would make attention not to go too with the vibrati thing. It is true that Dokschitzer was doing it a lot but you don't have to do exactly as him, right? |

| Re: Arutunian Concerto for Trumpet I actually play up the vibrato a lot in the opening when performing this piece. To me, this is the proper style for this work. Also, Arutunian is an Armenian composer (who is still alive - will be 87 this October). In this light I find the work more a collection of "folk and gypsy songs" rather than one big Russian Concerto. I have a recording by someone I won't mention because I don't recommend it. It is way too straight and not a good example IMHO. The recommendations so far are much better. The main thing is to be musical and romantic when you play this work. Have fun! Use your imagination and really get lost in the piece. |

| Re: Arutunian Concerto for Trumpet Ok, thanks. I think I am doing good as I have until May to have the piece finished and ready to go. I should be able to make it. I got a live Dokshizer (sorry I cant spell his name) recording that I found on this board for free (their was a link). I have to put more vibrato into it though. It is a very nice piece as well. |

Dokshizer is the reference! Even if you have to pay for the recoring it is worth it! | |
