Auditioning for pro orchestras

The thread below avoids that topic as it’s being well discussed across the hallway. I’d like to focus instead on the upcoming audition in Montreal and talk about what an audition committee may (or may not) be looking for in when listening to an applicant. Trust me when I say that I’ve served on many.

Firstly, let’s understand that there are objective standards against which any candidate can be measured by a committee of peers:

Best and I’m looking forward to discussing this with you, Who says early January is boring?

Manny,

I thought that it may be quite interesting for all the TM community if you and Wilmer join this EC thread. Though the requirements for most of the orchestral excerpts and solo pieces may be similar for all three of you I think that you may have complementary (not competition like) insights. As we were told already in a thread it is not recommendable to post same post in all resident Artist forums especially when the thread was started by Ed...Do you mind to drop in? Should I sent a note to Wilmer?

Nickolay,

I always welcome posts, especially by Manny, Wilmer, and Tony (and indeed I enjoy posting on their threads as well). The protocol note that you refer to was meant to discourage posting the same thread in different forums around the site at the same time.

There's nothing wrong with repetition, by the way. We're mostly rehashing/recycling topics anyway and duplication will happen naturally.

Best, as always,
EC
