| Pianissimo User | Blumine Recording I'm looking for a recording of Mahler 1 with this added mvt. Can anyone suggest one? Perhaps one that may be in iTunes? Surprisingly, iTunes works great out here. Thanks! |

| Re: Blumine Recording Try the recording with Gil Johnson playing in the Philadelphia Orchestra. We are lucky to have this older recording on CD now, because the trumpet playing on the Blumine is gorgeous. It's available on amazon.com as well as other places. |

| Pianissimo User | Re: Blumine Recording Thank you all for the help. Wilmer, as per your advice, I found this recording on iTunes. Flinch, what year did Ghitalla record this movement? |

| Forte User | Re: Blumine Recording I just bought the Philly recording Wilmer mentioned. Search for Mahler: Blumine and it'll turn up. I must admit (although somewhat embarassedly) that this is my first time hearing Mr. Gil Johnson, as far as I can remember anyway. I am really touched by his purity of sound, his beautiful vibrato and the way he shapes this beautiful movement. (I bought the whole Mahler 1, but haven't listened to the entire piece yet. I'll do that on the way home). I wish I could have heard him live. Not to hijack, but, who was playing in that section? |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Blumine Recording Seymour Rosenfeld, Donald McComas and Roger Blackburn played in the Trumpet section with Gil. I think that this is the section on the Mahler #1 recording. Wilmer |

| Re: Blumine Recording The Ghitalla Blumine was recorded with Ozawa and Boston on Deutsche Grammophon around 1977. The Blumine was excluded from the LP issue and Ghitalla never knew why. (Pretty damn pretty, after all.) Anyway, it came out on CD (1984?) on DG 'eloquence' coupled with a Berlin/Bohm/Fischer-Dieskau Ruckert-Leider. #289 469 660-2 Also of note: An LP (and perhaps later, a CD???) with Wyn Morris and the New Philharmonia Orchestra came out in 1982 on something called PRT Records. #GSGC 2045 The really cool thing about this one was that it featured the entire 1893 version, not just Blumine added to the Mahler 1 we all know!!! There are lots of very interesting differences in orchestration, even rhythms. Try to find it. ~Jeff Work |
