CSO Brass Section Concert at Midwest Clinic

Who saw it?

I was there - holy cow... I sat two rows away from Gunther Schuller, got to shake his hand. The playing was remarkable... The tribute to Vince Cichowicz was moving... but the most beautiful thing was the Sussex Mummers Carol. Jupiter was incredible as well. A week later and I am still in awe of this event.

Also saw it, but from up in the gallery. It was incredibly exciting to hear that sound and to make as lasting a tonal-imprint on my mind.

It was a very satisfying arrangement of the Also Sprach fanfare.

My only "huh?" on the program was when it was just Martin and Ridenour on cornets. Maybe it was my seat, maybe it was a vibrato, but it just didn't seem the cornet sound always locked in.

That, perhaps, was THE highlight of my MidWest experience this year.

Did they play any of Gunther's music? I think I remember reading about a Symphony for Brass he wrote in the 40s.

I was there. Great concert. Amazing soft playing, in addition to the great louds. They said they are hoping to do a similar concert next year. Don't miss it!
