The resignation of Chicago Symphony Orchestra Musical Director Daniel Barenboim may not be as much of a sure thing as it first appeared.

Orchestra members say Barenboim has said he would reconsider his resignation, which he announced Feb. 19, if a majority of the orchestra voted in support of him staying, the Chicago Tribune reported Tuesday.

CSO members and directors will meet Wednesday and a vote in his favor could encourage Barenboim to stay, the newspaper said

The musicians of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO) have decided not to proceed with a proposed referendum on whether to ask music director Daniel Barenboim to reconsider his decision to resign his position. The Chicago Tribune reports that the players decided to abandon the vote following extended internal discussions and a "calm, businesslike" meeting with CSO chief executive Deborah Card and board chairman William H. Strong.
