| Pianissimo User | Eastern European Music for Trumpet Sure we all know the Soviet/Russian Concerti (Arutunian, Pakmutova, et. al), and the Grand Russian Fantasy, etc... Im looking for something interesting and flashy for a recital I'm putting together... I know theres a piece, Slavonic Fantasy I really dig (heard it on a recital a year or two ago), but I don't know the composers name... anyone have any help? Whattabout other pieces like this one? Thanks! |

Interesting and flashy, you want? If you'll settle for flashy; take a look at the Goedicke Concerto. (Same composer as the beloved "Concert Etude") -Ellis | |

| Mezzo Forte User | Re: Eastern European Music for Trumpet I believe to have a most suitable background to give some suggestions...Probably I should present briegly myself: I am bulgarian trumpeter who made his studies in western Europe, but look from time to time the this kind of reertoire...I can give you some suggestion, but cannot guarantee that you can find the pieces on internet or in a local music sheet shop. Karol Kurpinski: Cavatina na trabke (lup puzon) i fortepian - Cavatina for trumpet or trombon and piano a la Arban: Quite easy and short but still nice. I got a copy from a polish friend but would be very surprised if you managed to get otherwise. Neicho Russev: Pastorale: Nice but very easy piece....Grade 4-5 Don't think that it will really appropriate for your recital. I played it at the end of my fisr year as a trumpeter. Again, difficult to get by the normal way. Atanas Kossev: Light Up for trumpet and piano: contemporary (2000) and quite difficult piece but is quite fun. It is scored for B flat trumpet but I prefer to play it on C as some of the tremolo written are almost impossible on the B flat (c#-e# which on the C becomes b-d# which is much easier) Alexander Mikhailov: 2 pieces for trumpet and piano: probably still too easy and not interesting enough. It may be usefull to look in the Hungarian repertoire too: They have few interesting pieces. Frigues Hidas: Trumpet Concerto No. 2 : It is not flashy but you may find it interesting. Dalibor Vackar: You should Ed Carrol about this. I played some partita for solo trumpet which is jazzy, but a bit long...he wrote also a concerto for trumpet, double base and piano but I never heard it. I just ordered the Wallace recording of it, but still waiting for it. And the obvious...cornerstone of the trumpet repertoire... Georges Enescu: Legend for trumpet and piano: I don't know if this is to be considered french or romanian music...sure it is french style like, but the composer is romanian. |
