I was listening to Accuradio and heard Jouko Harjanne performing the third movement of "Trumpet Concerto, Op. 42" by Eino Tamberg. Does anyone know where I might be able to get the music to this concerto? I really liked what I heard and would love to work on this piece.

I might also add that Harjanne has a nice, fat, big orchestral sound. I enjoyed his playing very much.

The Tamberg isn't cheap (somewhere around $40 when I bought it) but well worth it.

Thanks Zach! I didn't think it was going to be this easy! I had not called around yet because I honestly never heard of the piece until today. I have been using PSM for almost two decades and they never disappoint. You are right, they have great customer service. I will give them a call Tuesday.

It's an electronic version of someone's doctoral thesis, exploring three different russian/soviet trumpet concertos, including the Tamberg. Lot's of good history, analysis, and musical examples.

I know Phil Smith has performed the piece several times with orchestra. Be sure to check out Dokshitzer's recording!

Thanks to all of you for the suggestions. I don't know how this one sailed under my radar, but I am happy to have discovered it. All of the information has been very helpful and raises my interest in the piece. I look forward to working it up.

Resurrecting a very old thread -- Michael Sachs is performing this concerto with the Cleveland Orchestra in March. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone familiar with the work - pretty much anything about it.
