Eric Aubier

I have become a true fan of this player after ITG and want to get my hands on some of his recordings. I searched Amazon and Tower Records. While they do list CDs they also say they are unavailable. Can any of you, perhaps my colleagues overseas, help me locate where I can order them? Much thanks!

Eric Aubier

One of his CDs, I think it's "The French Trumpet" or something like that, includes his playing of the Charlier #2 and Enesco's "Legende" with full orchestral background. Hope you can find it; very much worth having.

My personal favorite is the "4 Grandes Concertos Francais pour Trompette" - though it might have a different title now. Anyway, it has Tomasi, Desenclos, Chaynes, and Jolivet 2. Unreal.

Also great is the all-Jolivet disc. He has the "Heptade" on there and it's amazing!

Am I the only one that thought the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra could have played a bit softer?

With the Tomasi it was a bit easier to win the battle... but on the Camino a Jalisco the trumpet was often hidden by the orchestra. To my ears it was one of those cases where the soloist showed much more sensitivity to dynamic changes while the orchestra was still on the last movement of the Tomasi.... We know Hofs can blow... so if he wnated to go to guns with the orchestra he could have...

Another question for anyone that can answer...

A year ago the Phoenix Symphony had NAKARIAKOV here and he was scheduled to play the Arutiunian. But he did not. Rumor was that the orchestra could not afford the rental fees (orchestral parts)... rumor... maybe it just wasn't available.

Can anyone address this? I would imagine the fees are high and I'm sure renting both the Tomasi and the Arutiunian was not cheap! Anybody have a clue how much the rental fees are? Just curious.

These two are at the top of my list Robert! I was going to order those two and the one 'doofus' mentioned, "The French Trumpet"......just for the Enesco, it is worth it. I went to his site and two of the three are available. Many of them say to just contact Eric directly. I think I will send him an email with a request for all three and see if I am successful that way. Ahem....I must learn some French first. His website has some great video and sound clips if you guys want to check it out.

I agree with you Rogerio. The orchestra covered the soloists in soft passages with great regularity. I was disappointed in that because both Matthias and Eric treated us to wide dynamic variation and sound color that were sometimes trampled due to the orchestra not coming down with them. It didn't take away from the fact that I thoroughly enjoyed their performances though.

I thought Matthias' sound on his Thein was INCREDIBLE. I would love to have a rotary like that and sound as he did!

Yeah, a message in French may be helpful. He came to IU several years ago as a guest of Stephen Burns (with whom I was studying at the time).

Burns was on hand to translate for the masterclass and some people's lessons, but because I was a grad student he said "you're on your own!"

It was pretty funny since I know minimal French. Great lesson, though. Luckily, Aubier played a lot. He's a very cool guy.

Pretty inexpensive if you have a friend with the score.
