Chris Gekker? I am pretty sure the "quintet for trumpet and strings" is the same as the concerto. Gekker has a great sound.

As for John Williams Concerto.................I have never heard it.. :)

I don't think there is a commercially available recording of the Ewazen concerto as the concerto but I believe the above post is correct that it is an adaptation of the quintet so the Gakker recording would at least be a start. The onlw commercial recording of the Williams concerto is with Arturo Sandoval as soloist. It's on the Denouement Records label.

Are you referring to the Ewazen Trio for Trumpet, Violin, and Piano?

No, there is another piece for trumpet and string quartet simply called Quintet for Trumpet and Strings. It is this piece which was turned into the Concerto.

yeah, it's definatley not the trio as the previous post states although that is a very gorgeous piece. i haven't heard of a quintet that was turned into the concerto so i will just trust ado. it must be that.

hey everybody. i just sent an e-mail to eric ewazen himself about a recording of the concerto and he told me this...

"The Concerto for Trumpet and Strings can be performed with either String Orchestra accompaniment or String Quartet accompaniment--in which case it is titled "Quintet for Trumpet and Strings". In that version it has been recorded. That is on a CD titled The Chamber Music of Eric Ewazen. The soloist is Chris Gekker. The work is recorded on Well-Tempered Productions, and can be purchased on Amazon.com"

so i thought i would share this for all to know.

I'm going off memory but I believe Eric Brown, a poser here and at TH has a recording of the John Williams concerto on his website. If I remember I will try to find a link to it tomorrow but just do a search for him here and go to his site.
