mikeblutman has a spectacular aura about
Gekker - New Solo CD

Chris Gekker has recently released his second solo disc, "Clarion", for Albany records. This disc contains two works by Eric Ewazen and one each by Sydney Hodkinson and James Wintle.

Ewazen's "Trio for Violin, Trumpet and Piano" is featured on this recording with Gekker's University of Maryland colleagues (and terrific musicians) Rita Sloan on piano and David Salness on violin.

Eric Ewazen is the pianist for his "New England Portraits" (a recent trumpet transcription of Ewazen's 1983 song cycle on Edna St. Vincent Millay poems).

Gekker plays all three trumpet parts on Hodkinson's "Clarion".

I believe this is only the second time the Trio has been recorded (the first being the Phil Smith/Sharon Yamada/Joseph Turrin recording we all enjoy). The Trio was written for Chris Gekker in 1992, though remained one of the few Ewazen works written for him that he had not recorded until this release.

Enjoy,
Mike
