Gomalan Brass

Has anyone ever heard them? They are the most amazing brass quintet I have probably ever heard. It consists of two trumpets, a horn, trombone, and tuba. If you haven't heard them, it is a real treat.

Re: Gomalan Brass

I have one of their Cd's. One of my favorite pieces they do is a medley from the Chicago musical. It is absolutely amazing!

Re: Gomalan Brass

Aren't they awesome? I was afraid that I would come on here and introduce them and everyone would say "Yea they're good, but I've heard much better." They really are a special group.

I think one of those trumpet players won the CSO job before Chris Martin and turned it down after playing with them for a while?????

Re: Gomalan Brass

I believe that Marco Pierabon and Marco Braito are the two trumpet players in the quintet. Pierabon is a principal in the St Cecilia orchestra in Rome and Braito is a principal at the RAI orchestra in Torino. Pierabon was over and auditioned and played in Chicago but was never offered the position. I met Braito this fall on the CSO tour and he is wonderful trumpet player and is now using TweeQers. In fact the whole section at the RAI purchased some TweeQers from me.

Re: Gomalan Brass

A few years ago, 2003, they did a North American tour. David Ohanian (former horn player in the Canadian Brass) was taking them around for a bit and touting them as "the next best thing." Next, in this case meaning "new best" not "2nd best." They did a concert and a masterclass at Tanglewood and were absolutely incredible. They also do opera projects where I they act out full operas or nearly full operas in costume and sing in addition to play. Somehow though, they're not very well known, even in the rest of Europe.

Re: Gomalan Brass

OK, nevermind, I looked at the website. Do they work very well, and are they harmful to the instrument in any way?
Thanks
