| Great concert- but one question! Manny, I just caught you guys playing Pulcinella, Prokofiev piano concerto #3, and Swan Lake tonight. One quick question. Was that an Eb you were playing the Stravinsky on? Does the first little sixteenth note section lay better in C# than E? Or if it wasn't an Eb what horn was that? Sorry but my curiosity is getting the better of me. Anyway, it sounded great as usual, and hopefully I can catch another round of you guys when I am back in February. -Andrew |

| Re: Great concert- but one question! I heard the broadcast last night, and was wondering the same thing. Also does Osmo request cornets for the cornet parts? Saint Paul Civic did movements from Swan Lake in December. It is a lot of fun to play. Did you have the whole ballet in front of you because you did things that were not in the suite that we did? |

| Re: Great concert- but one question! Guys, For the Stravinsky I used a D trumpet and for the Tchaikovsky Bob and I used cornets. He has a bach c cornet and I used the orhestra's Bb Getzen with an old, old Conn Wonder mouthpiece.... very deep. It wasn't Osmo's idea to have us use them. I generally like to use a cornet where it's indicated if the part doesn't go too high like Prokofiev's R & J. We'll be using them again when we play Symphonie Fantastique if not before. Thanks for listening! ML |

| New Friend | Re: Great concert- but one question! Dear Mr. Manny, First of all, HAPPY NEW YEAR! That 2007 brings you only the best things ! Unfortunately I did not get to hear the concert (time Zone in Brazil makes the broadcasts really late!!). But the forum made me curios about your aproach to using different instruments. I know Mr. Vachiano was big on using different horns so I figure you donīt have a problem with that either ? In other words, in what excerpts would you rather use Ds or Ebs or even Gs for example? And how do you feel if auditionees pull up letīs say an Eb for the ballerina Dance? Thanks in advance for the insight. All the best, Heinz Karl. |

| Re: Great concert- but one question! Happy New year to you, too, Heik, and welcome back, it's been a while. I use the instrument that is largest that I am most comfortable playing. For auditioners, I like the fullest sound I can hear. The sound must fit the excerpt, however. It matters not to me what they play as long as it fits my concept of sound and satisfies me musically. | Re: Great concert- but one question! Thanks for responding Manny. Yeah I thought a D trumpet was most likely. However I got to playing around with the Eb trumpet after hearing you and actually C# didn't seem as hard as I assumed it would be, so I thought just maybe.......... |
