Hallelujah by Handel

I'm playing this with a choir and a few other instrumentalists (a flautist, and possibly a few string players). I really don't have time to warm up (as I also sing in the choir) unfortunately but I think I'm prepared for that as I usually spend only a couple of minutes. Had a little bit of problem with accuracy but it's coming. I think the main problem is coaxing my Bb trumpet to not overwhelm the choir (although I have not practised with them yet). Do you have any advice?

PS If anyone in Auckland (the one in NZ) is willing to lend me a D trumpet, it would be great.

Yes, make every effort to get hold of a D (or Eb) trumpet, as it will help you with your accuracy in the high register, and with achieving balance with the choir. Afraid I can't help you with locating an instrument, as I live on the other side of the planet!

If you do not have time to warm up before playing, keep your mouthpiece in your pocket so it is kept warm - I find trying to play on a cold mouthpiece is the worst thing. Also, try to keep the instrument somewhere warm, or you'll have tuning problems as it heats up throughout the piece.

Other than that, enjoy it - it is a fantastic piece to play. The middle section with the sustained written G, followed by the semiquaver run and the build up to the written high C is one of my favourites.

Keeping instrument(s) warm:

I tried this many moons ago while doing my Junior recital and it worked great.

I purchased a heating pad and wrapped the instrument inside it. The reciatl hall was extremely cold ( and so was the back room). It was nice to pick up a warm instrument.

Just a suggestion.

Re: Hallelujah by Handel

Make up some scale studies in E Major. The Hallelujah Chorus works on the Bb. Work on light eighth and two sixteenth note patterns based on the part.
Work on playing with no warmup exactly like the concert situation. Think compact. Don't overblow!
