Handel's Let The Bright Seraphim D tp part

Anyone know where I can find a copy of the trumpet part (preferably in D but I'll make do with any key) for Let The Bright Seraphim? An arrangement for organ, singer and trumpet would be right peachy.

I've searched high and low and can't seem to locate the sheet music.

Re: Handel's Let The Bright Seraphim D tp part

Searching high and low means looking for a freebie. Sometimes things in life cost something - what about listening to that Marsalis recording and transcribing it yourself - or is it "not that important"?

Nothing against you GSMONKS, but I feel like a RANT is in order.

The digital generation needs to think about a couple of things. Making EVERYTHING freely available on the internet leads to several things:
1) Publishers go broke. It costs money to research original sources, maintain a staff of educated people to edit, correct and typeset music with th necessary historic accuracy
2) musicians get lazy. transcribing by hand is one of the fastest ways to learn style and order. So many performances are trash because the soloist has never spent any time with the composer or score!
3) the borders for THEFT become very gray. When we participate in theft, we are actually degrading the quality of our part in civilization. Hairs are split about what is a legal copy nd how we can use it.

In this case the sheet music is available. I googled:

"Let The Bright Seraphim!" sheet music

and got tons of working links. Instead of being a parasite, reward someone who has gone through the effort of coming up with a decent edition.

Rant on Rowuk! I have probably spent as much money on sheet music as I have spent on my instruments. I don't mind lending music to people, but copying is just stealing.

Except that Handel is dead and therefore his original score is in the public domain. Its just the modern editions that are copyright. Hence you can get open source scores that are not copyright and can be freely distributed.

Category:Sheet music - ChoralWiki

WIMA: Werner Icking Music Archive - Composers and Editors

Although I don't see that aria on either of those sites.

Actually I forgot about International Music Score Library Project (IMSLP) Portal

They have the full score of Samson:

Thank-you muchly, big-time!

Ah . . . guys . . . I was not looking for a freebie. I was looking for the music, plain and simple. I still have to locate an arrangement for D trumpet, voice and organ. I've found one on line but they accept only credit cards, and I do not give out my credit card info over the Interweeb. It's PayPal, a money order, or nothin'.

RE: the Marsalis recording, I could memorise the trumpet part more quickly than I could copy it, but the keyboard part is another matter. I play piano, but the organ is alien territory for me.

As far as copying goes, that doesn't apply to public domain, and we're hardly talking sound recordings here.

You guys shouldn't waste everyone's time being rude based upon an unfounded assumption. It's a bummer having to listen to you.

Sorry, gsmonks, It seems that we automatically assume when someone wants music, they want a free ride. The music that I bought for trumpet in D, Soprano, and organ are from Tromba publications and The Brass Press. I believe that they are still available. They even have some suggested ornamentations.

An arrangement with piano is also easily played by most organists. There are several editions out there. Most music houses will also take a check or money order - it just takes a lot longer to arrive.

Festive Arias for Soprano or Mezzo Soprano and Trumpet - Sheet Music Plus

is just one source - also includes other arias that are worth playing.

Hope you find what you are looking for. I have several editions, but I think they are all out of print now.

Yeah, I got to thinking later and realised you're right to assume as you did. Most people looking for music are looking for freebies these days.

That's EXACTLY what I'm looking for. Thanks very muchly! I just checked and it is still available. There's an arrangement for strings, too.

I haven't performed this piece since around 1972, at Easter. Last time was at the Shawnessy United Church on Granville St in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Gorgeous old pipe organ and building. We used an arrangement for soprano and organ and sketched out a trumpet part, which I was going to use until a friend pointed out that it wasn't quite right.

There's another piece I've been trying to track down that we used to perform at the Dutch Reform Church in Richmond, BC. It's for choir and organ, no trumpet part, but we sketched in a trumpet part. I haven't heard the piece since, don't know if there actually is a real arrangement with trumpet, can't remember the words, and only remember bits and pieces of the melody. This again was a piece we performed at Easter. The opening words are "Christ is risen", followed by a pause, and then the piece gets under way. It struck me at the time as being a bit modernish. Great piece, and like Let The Bright Seraphim a very satisfying experience.
