![]() | Haydn Trumpet concerto Hi all, I'm new to the trumpet and reading music (guitar tab reader) To keep my practice interesting I like to play things that are some what fun so I have been been playing a few bars of the Haydn trumpet Concerto in E flat. The written music sounds correct without flatting E, A and B though. Perhaps it's just my ear. Is it E Flat transposed or something else? The intervals sound correct with no sharps and flats. What am I missing here? Here is a link to the music. Obviously, I'm just playing the slow parts. Low G to E at the top of the staff. Thanks for any input. | Forte User | Re: Haydn Trumpet concerto Dean The whole part is transposed in C (but still should sound in E flat) so you can actually play it on E flat trumpet without transposing (sounds 1.5 steps above what is written). I can play it as written for practice, but to play it with an orchestra or piano reduction you will most probably have to play it in the appropriate key (if you got a B flat trumpet this would be F major, a forth above what is written in your part - you can have a transposed B flat part here http://imslp.info/files/imglnks/usim...Part_in_Bb.pdf ). It is serious business though

![]() | Re: Haydn Trumpet concerto Thanks. I didn't know it was written for an E-flat trumpet. That explains the pitch difference in the recordings I've heard. I'll stick with practicing it as is. E is the highest note I need for the small sections I'm using to practice on. It is "serious business," as you say. I have no illusions about being able to play this piece all the way through, EVER!! But the slow parts are a nice way to practice reading and playing it is so inspiring. I've found that learning a new instrument opens up my appreciation to music I never listened to quite so closely before. Thanks so much for your reply. |
