| Holst First Military Suite in Eb: March Hey, For the solo/ensemble contest at my high school, seven of us are doing holst's first military suite in Eb, the 3rd movement, the march. It calls for a piccolo, but none of us have one. We've been playing with out it and it sounds alright.. but it'd still be nice to have it. How essential do you think the high part to that song is? |

![]() | Re: Holst First Military Suite in Eb: March If talking music ethics, we have with any transcription more freedom not to play the ink. If being judged, however, the judges will be reading the score and wondering why the piccolo part is left out. Ultimately you must make a decision--are the couple of points lost by not having the piccolo part played less of a danger than playing badly with the part? With these kinds of double-binds, I always vote for the most musical approach--musicality trumps arrangers. |
